Combined Heat and Power Plant
The South Hill Business Campus (SHBC) contracted a third party to install a 500 kW combined heat and power (CHP) plant, consisting of two 250 kW reciprocating internal combustion engine generators.

Following its installation, SHBC requested CTS Builders to evaluate the system due to concerns about the CHP plant’s overall efficiency and unacceptable vibration and noise levels. Based on several observable design and installation issues, CTS recommended relocating the two generators and pre-purchased radiators to an outdoor location. SHBC agreed and retained CTS to provide design and construction management services for this relocation in a design-build, open book approach.
